DUNS driver Dale Robertson enjoyed a successful trip over the Irish Sea for the latest round of this year's British Rally Championship, the Ulster Rally.
Dale, co-driven by Paul Beaton from Inverness, took his Mitsubishi Lancer to 22nd place overall. More importantly they were ninth British Championship crew home putting them into sixth place in the championship and into the lead in the Privateers Cup.
Dale was in dominant form from the start, beating most of the local Irish front runners in their newer spec Mitsubishi Lancers, Dale's car being some ten years older than the top machinery on display.
The opening session on Friday went well with the dry conditions suiting Dale's driving style and they were as high as eighth championship crew and 17th overall going into the overnight stages.
However, these night stages proved to be their downfall. They found out just how tricky the tight Irish lanes are and parked their Lancer in a hedge!
They managed to get the car back on the road and after one or two more scary encounters they finished Friday's tough section 12th championship crew and 26th overall.
Following an early restart on Saturday morning Dale set about climbing up the leaderboard but heavy afternoon rain made conditions treacherous catching a few of the drivers out.
However, Dale kept his head with a sensible drive to make the finish in 22nd place and ninth championship crew.
St Boswells driver Gordon Nichol was also competing and he finished in 41st place overall and second in the Suzuki Swift Sport Cup.
