EAST Coast Track Club athletes Guy and Jack Learmouth from Ayton were in outstanding form at the Scottish Age Group Championship at Grangemouth at the weekend.
Coached by their father and Henry Gray, Guy and Jack stepped up to the mark in the most important competition of the season. Guy, who has only been training seriously for athletics in the last three months ran superbly to take the Scottish bronze medal in the under 17 800 metres.
He was second fastest qualifier for the final and was up against Stuart Ross of the Victoria Park Club in Glasgow who is ranked first in Scotland and third in Great Britain. Also running were the North of England's top runners Jake Archer and Marcus Cram (son of the famous Olympic runner Steve Cram).
In a very slow tactical final Guy finished a close third to Stuart Ross and Graham McDowell. He has two major races left this season and is aiming to make the power of 10 rankings in Great Britain.
His brother Jack finished fourth in the final of the under 13 long jump, missing out on a medal by an agonising three centimetres.
Andrew Crighton of Innerwick has also been in superb form of late, running well at the Scottish Championships in the 1500 metres and close to his personal best.
Andrew had a fine run in the final of the Scottish Young Athletes Final. Running for City of Edinburgh , Andrew recorded a personal best of 9 minutes 25 seconds for 3000 metres to maintain his top 10 ranking in Scotland for that event. Andrew now goes onto Manchester and Derby to run in the British under 20 league finals.
Twins Hannah and Emily Jones both ran very well in their final league meeting at Meadowbank recently. Emily came in first in the 800 metres just ahead of Hannah.
Ross Anderson, Fion Brown, Alison Brwn, Erin Brown, Anna Grundy, Matthew Grundy and Robbie Patterson finished their season at Whittingham recently and they all ran very well.
