NO strangers to the sweet smell of success, a Berwickshire business has once again tickled the tastebuds at a prestigious national event.
Giacopazzi's from Eyemouth is celebrating after winning a prestigious Gold Great Taste Award for one of their new recipes.
Their ice cream take on the popular Snickers bar beat off strong competition in the 'ice cream with nuts' category and when it came to the crunch they got the all important judges' vote.
What makes their win even more impressive is that the Great Taste Awards don't just deal with all things ice cream it covers culinary delights across the board and Peter Giacopazzi said he was delighted that his shop's ice cream was so highly thought of.
"These awards are for people who are passionate about their food, everything from meats, cheeses, shortbreads and of course ice cream. The standard was really high and this was the first year we entered so I'm really proud of our achievement."
To enter into the competition, Peter had to send away a sample of the Snickers ice cream to London in May for it be scrutinized again and again and then a further two samples were sent in July before the Gold Award was presented.
In the past few years Giacopazzis, which has been a permanent fixture in Eyemouth since 1900, has scooped cups and diplomas in the Alliance Awards for its triple chocolate ice cream and pineapple sorbet amongst other recipes. They also won a silver medal at this year's Royal Highland Show where amongst the judges was chef Nick Nairn.
So it's clear Peter and his staff obviously know a thing or two about coming up with the perfect combination and worked particularly hard on their award winning recipe.
Peter said: "Myself and Ailsa Kelly, who comes up with a lot of the ideas, looked at the Snickers bar and took some of the components from it. We tried to get the right balance between the nuts and the smoothness. And as well as the judges, people coming into the shop seem to love it too - it's been really popular."
This summer hasn't exactly been a scorcher but Peter said that Giacopazzi's has still had its fair share of customers.
"I think we're a well known name for a lot of people and they know they're going to get some quality ice cream here. As well as the Snickers recipe it's really been the old favourites that have proved popular like sorbets, vanilla, wild strawberry and ginger."
And there's no let up for Peter and his staff as they are currently trying out new recipes in time for the Christmas period so don't be surprised if you eat a Christmas pudding from the top of a cone this year!
